Netflix Adds Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune Anime, Final Ultraman CG Anime Season in India

Netflix is listing Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune, an anime adaptation of author Carlo Zen and illustrator so-bin's Yakitori science-fiction novel series, for release in India on May 18. It will add Ultraman Final, the 3D CG anime of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's Ultraman manga, on May 11.

The Yakitori sci-fi novels are set in a future where the solar system is dominated by trade federations who are in constant conflict. In order to escape his restrictive homeland of Japan, and under the recommendation of his military cook friend Pupkin, Akira enlists in a trade federation orbital drop infantry unit. Such infantry are notorious for their 70% casualty rate, and are nicknamed "yakitori" for their expendability.

Hideki Anbo is directing the anime at Arect. Mitsuyasu Sakai (Cyberteam in Akihabara, EUREKA SEVEN AO, AMAIM Warrior at the Borderline SF setting research) is writing the anime. Atsushi Yamagata (Genocyber, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, Bright: Samurai Soul) is designing the characters. Ken Ishii is composing the music.

Zen (The Saga of Tanya the Evil) and so-bin (Overlord) published the first volume of the novel series under Hayakawa Publishing in August 2017, and published the second volume in April 2018.

Ultraman Final will have a worldwide Netflix debut on May 11.

M.A.O, Kōji Ishii, and Hideaki Tezuka join the cast as the characters Balkyua, Mephisto, and Daisuke Arashi, respectively.

Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, Napping Princess) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed, Harlock: Space Pirate, Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars) are returning to direct the final anime season. Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East, Napping Princess) and Sola Digital Arts (Appleseed Alpha, Starship Troopers: Invasion, Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars) are again producing the anime in 3D CG. Nobuko Toda and Kazuma Jinnouchi are returning to compose the music.

Netflix describes the anime's story:

Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary "Giant of Light" (光の巨人 Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata's son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father's revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.

Kamiyama, Aramaki, Production I.G, and Sola Digital Arts returned from the first season for the second one.
