Shenmue III PS4, PC Game's Footage Streamed

Game slated for 2019 after delays

THQ Nordic, parent company of Koch Media and its publishing division Deep Silver, revealed footage from Deep Silver's Shenmue III PlayStation 4 and PC game at a presentation on May 16. The video features a presentation by Koch Media's Mario Gerhold and reveals pre-alpha footage of the game (presentation of the game begins at around the 1:12:00 mark in the video linked below).

Deep Silver also announced on Wednesday that the game has been delayed from the second half of 2018 to 2019. The announcement stated, "The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe."

The game was originally slated for release in December 2017, but was pushed back to the second half of 2018. After the game's first trailer debuted last August, Shenmue series creator and director Yu Suzuki said that the models for "Shenhua, Ryo, and the other characters are mostly temporary."

Suzuki announced the Shenmue III Kickstarter campaign at the PlayStation E3 press conference in June 2015 with an initial goal of US$2 million. The campaign met that goal within nine hours of launching before adding stretch goals for the previous games' cinema shorts, subtitles in five languages (German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese), rapport and skill tree systems, an expanded Baisha village setting, and five mini games.

Sega released the original Shenmue on its own Dreamcast platform in 1999, and released the Shenmue II sequel on the Dreamcast in 2001, and on the Microsoft Xbox in 2002. The series was originally planned as a trilogy.

Sega will release a Shenmue I & II game collection for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Japan, Europe, and North America this year. The game will launch in Japan on the PS4 only.
