PS4 remake of 1st game in series ships on February 22

Marvelous began streaming two "prologue videos" on Thursday for Honey∞Parade Games' Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal, the PlayStation 4 remake of the 2012 Senran Kagura Burst action game for the Nintendo 3DS. The videos each show the prologue of the story. The first video shows the prologue for Hanzō National Academy, and the second video shows the prologue for the Hebijo Clandestine Girls' Academy.

(Note: Videos may not be safe for work.)

The game will ship for PS4 in Japan on February 22.

The game will remake the original side-scrolling game as a full 3D game with updated graphics and gameplay features. Yumi and Miyabi will be free DLC characters, each with their own DLC side stories. The story from the original game will appear in the remake with additional story elements.

The remake's limited-edition NyūNyū DX Pack will include a special box, booklet, full-length drama CD, original packaging, a set of six pair "Lover's straps" with box, and an illustration card with special five-part DLC. The first copies of the game will include an illustration card with a product code for DLC "Forbidden Fruit Cutie Peach & Melon" costumes. Additional characters will be available as DLC for free for two weeks, and they will be available for purchase after that period ends.

Marvelous and its Honey∞Parade Games subsidiary are developing four new Senran Kagura games, including Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal.

The franchise began with the release of the original Senran Kagura game on the Nintendo 3DS in September 2011. The games inspired a television anime in 2013. Funimation streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and released it on Blu-ray Disc and DVD in 2014.
