Monster Hunter: World Game Sets New Franchise Shipment Record

CAPCOM announced on Monday that the Monster Hunter: World game shipped 5 million copies worldwide in its first three days to set a new franchise record. The figure includes digital sales. The game series debuted in 2004, and it has sold a total of more than 45 million copies as of Sunday.
The Monster Hunter: World game launched worldwide on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on Friday. The game will receive free updates, including new monsters, starting this spring. CAPCOM also plans to launch the game for PC this fall.
The game is available in Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector's Edition versions. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with the Samurai Set armor, three additional gestures, two additional sticker sets, an additional face paint, and additional hair style. The Collector's Edition contains everything from the Digital Deluxe Edition and also includes a Nergigante figure, a download code for the game's soundtrack, and the "Monster Designs" art book.
People who pre-ordered any edition of the game receive a download code for the Origin Armor set and Fair Wind charm. In addition, digital pre-orders receive an exclusive PS4 theme.
The new game is an open world game that no longer has the previous games' loading screens in between areas, and thus no longer allows players to use zone transitions as safe zones. The game has a "living ecosystem" that allows players to use and destroy elements of the environment, and use monster behaviors against other monsters.
CAPCOM's previous Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter XX, shipped in Japan for the Nintendo 3DS last March, and shipped for the Nintendo Switch console last August. CAPCOM's Monster Hunter Stories role-playing game for the Nintendo 3DS shipped in Japan in October 2016, and it shipped in the West last September.
