Drama with original story takes place in world of upcoming Yakuza 6 game

Sega announced at its Sega Fest event in Tokyo on Sunday that its Yakuza (Ryū ga Gotoku) video game franchise is getting a live-action adaptation that will premiere on the Geo Channel video-on-demand service only on November 30. The title of the adaptation is Ryū ga Gotoku: Tamashii no Uta. (Yakuza: Soul Song). Geo Channel is streaming a trailer.

The live-action adaptation features a completely original story that takes place in the world of the Yakuza 6/Ryū ga Gotoku 6 game. The story follows a group of young men who admire Kazuma Kiryu and who travel from Onomichi (where Yakuza 6 takes place) in Hiroshima to Kamurocho in Tokyo. Yakuza game producer Toshihiro Nagoshi is serving as a special supervisor on the project, and Kan Eguchi is directing. The adaptation stars Shōno Hayama, Yūma Yamoto, Shōdai Fukuyama, and Mai Tezuka.

The drama will be available to rent on the Geo Channel service starting on January 11.

Ryū ga Gotoku 6 is slated to ship on the PlayStation 4 on December 8.
