Square Enix also streams fake 2D fighting game trailer using game's assets

The official Youtube channel for the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn massive multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) began streaming the benchmark trailer for Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward, the first expansion to Final Fantasy XIV, on Friday. The trailer shows how the expansion will look running on a PC with the recommended specifications.

Square Enix will release benchmark downloadable software on April 27 at 4 p.m. JST (3 a.m. EDT) so players can see how the game will run on their computer using actual maps and characters.

Additionally, Square Enix announced at the "Niconico Chō Kaigi 2015" (Niconico Super Conference 2015) event in Chiba on Saturday that it will release two Heavensward special edition PlayStation 4 consoles in Japan. Pre-orders will start on April 28 at 11 a.m. JST. The consoles will come in Jet Black and Glacier White. The bundle will come with one of three games based on the customer's choice: Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward normal edition, Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward collector's edition, or Final Fantasy XIV Online. Square Enix has not announced a price for the three different bundles.

Square Enix is also streaming a special "Ultimate Fight Final Fantasy XIV" trailer that uses in-game graphics and character assets from Final Fantasy XIV to create a fake fighting game trailer. Square Enix notes at the end of the video that "The implementation of 2D fighting content is not planned."

Heavensward will move into the Ishgard area and the country's Dragonsong War with Dravania will be a key plot point. The Wyrmking's fight against Thordan and his Knights Twelve will also be a major focus in the expansion. Square Enix will add The Holy See of Ishgard and multiple "new areas," new "challenging" dungeons, new "high-end" raids, new gear, recipes, airships, primals jobs, and a new race.

Specific new additions include the Dark Knight job class and flying mounts such as black Chocobos. Six flying mount varieties are in the works with a seventh planned depending on fan feedback. Airships are also planned with single-rider versions and multi-rider versions.

The new beast tribes are called the "Vanu Vanu" and "Gnath." The Vanu Vanu's primal is the "Bismarck" and the Gnath's is a laser sword wielding bug called "Ravana."

Inaccessible areas like Dravania will be opened and the player's level cap will be increased to 60.

The expansion will be available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC on June 23, and the collector's edition will include various extras such as a "Dragonsong War" box, a dragon mount figure, an art book, a Blu-ray Disc with compilations of all the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn trailers, and five in-game items.
