Nomura: Kingdom Hearts Smartphone Game to be Announced Soon

This week's issue of Enterbrain's Weekly Famitsu magazine will publish an interview on Thursday with Kingdom Hearts game director Tetsuya Nomura, where he states that he will announce the development of a Kingdom Hearts smartphone game soon. Nomura mentioned the smartphone game when noting that he has several "new announcements" to reveal this year regarding Kingdom Hearts III. He also added that development on Kingdom Hearts III is going well.
Japanese video game developer Square (now Square Enix) collaborated with the Walt Disney Company to develop the Kingdom Hearts series of action role-playing games, which feature characters from Disney animated films. Square released the first game in the series in 2002 for the PlayStation 2. Nomura directed the two main games in the series, as well as its many spinoffs, and is also directing the development of Kingdom Hearts III.
The game series spawned four manga adaptations by Shiro Amano. He launched the first series, Kingdom Hearts, in Enterbrain's Famitsu PS2 magazine in 2003, and ended it in 2005. He has also created manga adaptations for the Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days games. Amano will end the Kingdom Hearts II manga this May. North American publisher Tokyopop released all four volumes of Kingdom Hearts, both volumes of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and two volumes of Kingdom Hearts II before the company shut down its North American publishing division in 2011.
Yen Press then licensed all four manga adaptations in 2013. The company has also released the Shiro Amano: The Artwork of Kingdom Hearts artbook, and it released Tomoco Kanemaki and Amano's two-volume Kingdom Hearts light novel series last March.
