High School Star Musical Anime Cast Sings Premise in Video

posted on by Egan Loo

The official website for this fall's new musical television anime, High School Star Musical (Kōkō Hoshi Kageki), began streaming a promotional video on Thursday. The same video debuted at AnimeJapan 2015 last weekend. In the video, the cast sings the premise of the story in the song "Eien Stage": a slapstick teen comedy about high school students "who sparkle like stars."

The beginning of the song features the following lyrics:

This is a story that begins in this place.
My heart has started beating and won't stop.
We're each going to cross over our own walls.
Even the steps I couldn't get right have gotten a bit better, right?
The sweat that I've shed won't betray me. Never.

Tadako (Arashi's "Love so sweet," "Monster") is responsible for the dance sequences.

A new musical television anime, High School Star Musical (Kōkō Hoshi Kageki), will air this fall. The original project will be a slapstick teen comedy about high school students "who sparkle like stars."

"I don't know any way to give up my dream…."

The story starts when Yūta Hoshiya enters Ayana Academy, a school focusing on show business activities, specifically music. The academy has a group of the three students with the highest grades in the musical department, and they are known as the Kao Kai (Cherry Blossom Flower Association). This organization stands at the top of the pecking order within the academy.

The shortcut to entering the musical department is to enter the Star Frame class, which is directly taught by the members, and to be recognized by them. Unfortunately, due to their own problems, students Tōru, Kaito, Shō, Shū, and Yūta are all struggling to even remain candidates for the musical department. By a stroke of luck, however, the five are spotted by Kao Kai member Ōtori, and they pique his interest.

The voice cast includes:

Shunsuke Tada (Kuroko's Basketball, Prince of Tennis) is directing at C-Station (Dragonar Academy), and Sayaka Harada is in charge of the series scripts. Asami Watanabe is designing the characters.

The anime's website is recruiting members for the official free fan club, "Show Case" (a wordplay on Japanese characters for "Star Box"). In addition to showing the promotional video, the NBC Universal booth at AnimeJapan 2015 distributed the "Official Free Fan Club Show Case Newsletter Extra" with character profiles, staff interviews, and other details. The handout is also be at bookstores and anime stores after the event.
