posted on by Egan Loo
Director Masaaki Yuasa (Ping Pong, Kick-Heart, The Tatami Galaxy, Adventure Time's "Food Chain") revealed on Sunday that he is making a new original anime film. The director made the announcement in his handwritten comment on winning the Animation of the Year award in the Television Animation Division at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival. While Yuasa did not reveal the new film's title or other details, he reported that animation director Nobutake Ito (animation direction and character designs on Ping Pong, The Tatami Galaxy, Giovanni's Island) is also working on the project.
Ito also won the Best Animator award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival, while Kōki Uchiyama (Ping Pong's Makoto "Smile" Tsukimoto) won the Best Voice Actor award.
Yuasa directed the television anime of Taiyo Matsumoto's Ping Pong manga. He also created the "Kick-Heart" short with funds raised via Kickstarter. His other works include Kaiba, Mind Game, and The Tatami Galaxy.
