The official website for the television anime adaptation of Takumi Hiiragi-Boshi's Absolute Duo light novel series announced additional cast members and the broadcast date on Friday. The series will premiere on January 4 on AT-X.
The new cast includes:
- Haruka Tomatsu as Imari Nagakura
- Yukari Tamura as Rito Tsukimi
- Yui Horie as Sakuya Tsukumo
- Natsuki Hanae as Tora
- Yoshihisa Kawahara as Tatsu
The website also unveiled character designs for the main cast:
Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Tōru Kokonoe
Nozomi Yamamoto as Yurie Sigtuna
Ayaka Suwa as Tomoe Tachibana
Ayaka Imamura as Miyabi Hotaka
Haruka Yamazaki as Lilith Bristol
Atsushi Nakayama (A Dark Rabbit Has Seven Lives, Is This a Zombie? episode director) will direct the anime at 8-Bit (Infinite Stratos, Grisaia no Kajitsu) with series composition by Takamitsu Kouno (Minami-ke Tadaima, Kyo no Gononi). Keiichi Sano (Heaven's Memo Pad, Strike the Blood) will design the characters for the series, and will also serve as animation director along with Norie Tanaka (M3 the dark metal chief animation director, Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic episode animation director).
The story begins with Blaze — a weapon that is the manifestation of a human's soul. Tōru Kokonoe happens to be qualified for this, but for some reason his Blaze is not a weapon, but a shield. Moreover, he enrolled in a school that teaches combat skills, and thanks to the school's Duo partner system, he ends up living with a beautiful silver-haired girl named Yurie Sigtuna (a reference to the Sweden town, Sigtuna), a study-abroad student from Gimlé (a location in Norse mythology) within the Nordic countries.
Hiiragi-Boshi launched the light novel series with art by Yū Asaba in 2012, and Media Factory's MF Bunko published the sixth volume in July. Shinichirō Nariie launched a manga adaptation in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive magazine last July, and another spinoff manga series is serializing in Monthly Comic Alive.
