No. 6 Sci-Fi Manga Enters 'Final Battle'

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Hinoki Kino's manga is based on Atsuko Asano's novels that also inspired 2011 TV anime

The preview image for the October issue of Kodansha's ARIA magazine reveals that the issue will start the "final battle" in Hinoki Kino and Atsuko Asano's No. 6 sci-fi manga series when it goes on sale on August 28.

The manga is a post-apocalyptic, mystery series revolving around a young man named Shion, who houses another young man named "Nezumi" (Rat) for the night. Rat is on the run from the authorities and disappears by morning — only to reappear four years later to rescue Shion from arrest. Together, the two resist capture and attempt to uncover the secrets of City Number 6.

Kino launched the manga adaptation of Asano's nine-volume novel series in Aria in 2011 after providing the illustrations for the novels. Kodansha released the sixth compiled manga volume in Japan in March.

Kodansha Comics has licensed the series in North America, and the publisher released the first volume in June.

The novels also inspired an 11-episode television anime series in 2011 by BONES. Crunchyroll and The Anime Network both streamed the series as it aired, and Sentai Filmworks released the series on home video in North America last year.
