Square Enix Producer: 'We're Committed to Bringing More Dragon Quest Titles to the West'

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Square Enix producer Noriyoshi Fujimoto stated in an interview with gaming news website MCV UK on October 14 that Square Enix is "committed to bringing more Dragon Quest titles in the West as [the company believes] it truly has potential to succeed even better."

Fujimoto also stated that the recently released Dragon Quest Builders game sold more than 500,000 copies within "days of launch" in Japan. Square Enix released the game in North America for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita on October 11.

Square Enix plans to release a Nintendo 3DS port of the Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King game in North America in 2017. Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past shipped for Nintendo 3DS on September 16 in North America.

Square Enix is currently developing Dragon Quest XI: Sugisarishi Toki wo Motomete (Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time), the latest main game in the series, for the PS4, Nintendo 3DS, and the newly revealed Nintendo Switch. Square Enix plans to release the game within the Dragon Quest series' 30th anniversary, before May 27, 2017. Square Enix has no "concrete plan" yet to release the game in the West.
