Fair enough. Obviously you've gotta start development years ahead right? I assume that's all this is. It better be. Because I don't think I'm alone when I say I really don't wanna even start talking seriously about a new Nintendo console until...2017 maybe?

Please think about a proper name that wont confuse the casual consumers this time(Wii to Wii U). If you cant think of a good name, just follow Sony's naming plan: adding the next number. Clearly effective.

Ahh, I'll never keep up with consoles and games. Even though there's a list of things I wanna play.
I give up man. |

I hope it has a good name this time and doesn't have much of a gimmick.

If this isn't the advent of the NerveGear, then I doubt it'll be entirely new. Either way, they should just focus on the successor to the 3DS, considering how much success they've had since the DS was introduced over a decade ago.

I hope they aren't going the smartphone route.
Also does anyone have a translation of this. |

The Wii U hasn't even shipped 10 million in 2 1/2 years while the Gamecube a failure was already over 14 million. Nintendo can't afford to stretch out a failure they have to replace it asap. |

I doubt it. They've a long history of avoiding giving sequential numbers to the hardware succeeding the previous one: (Home consoles) Color TV-Game, Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo 64, Nintendo GameCube, Wii, Wii U (Handheld consoles) Game & Watch, Game Boy, Virtual Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance (SP), Nintendo DS (Lite, DSi), Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 2DS, New Nintendo 3DS. |

Turns out NX, their next gen console, is a separate development effort from this DeNA partnership: http://www.siliconera.com/2015/03/17/nintendos-next-dedicated-videogame-platform-codenamed-nx/

I'm not expecting anything good from them really, Nice to see them trying though.

From the looks of it, Nintendo is trying to get themselves into the smartphone market (referring to the links configspace displayed)?
The NX...I just hope that it'll have backwards compatibility of some sort. |

....Y'know, I just have to bring this up: why the HELL are people OBSESSED over the Wii U's name? Seriously, what IS IT about that names that IRRITATES people so much? It's just weird to see in action. And it's not even the stupidest name of the consoles. I mean, we all agreed that the XBox One was an asinine name, but now people outright wear kid gloves with it. Three years in and people are STILL obsessing over the Wii U's name. It's honestly just bizarre, if not a bit creepy.
Also, I noticed when they were talking about the NX they NEVER mentioned it being the Wii U's successor or next-gen hardware. At all. They just mentioned it having a new concept. That's it. That is all they EVER said. |

Not exactly. Nintendo is probably the one company that can afford to stretch out a failure to some degree. And looking at their stacked 2015 release lineup, they clearly haven't given up on the Wii U yet by any means. Plus, replacing the Wii U too quickly is gonna be an awful slap in the face to people who actually did buy a Wii U and it isn't going to inspire much confidence that it is worth investing in their new system. I mean look, I do see your point. Obviously the Wii U just has not worked out at all and they're going to look to replacing it sooner rather than later. I wouldn't take it as a foregone conclusion that it'll happen ASAP though. I'm at least still somewhat optimistic that we'll get another couple years out of the Wii U before we see a new home console. |
