Love Pui Pui Molcar, but can't say I'm excited for the film if it's ditching stop-motion for CG. Not a knock against CG — it just feels wrong in this case. So much of the appeal for this series is how cute and soft the guinea pig cars look. The toy figurine people also remind me of A Town Called Panic, with the funny ways they move about.

I don't care about 3D CG. I want stop motion

Wonder who will be voicing the molcars now? Another guinea pig?

At first I was disappointed it wasn't stop-motion, but then I took a second to reflect on how much time and work making a movie length stop-motion animation would've taken, and they have to strike while the iron is still hot, so I don't really blame them for going the CG route in the end.

I think if they animate it just right, it could still look very close to and give off the same feeling as stop-motion animation. Polygon did that with Pingu and I don't think that looked too far off from the real thing, so I think it has a chance to be decent.

Can't say I'm hopeful either. Not only does the stop-motion animation seem an essential part of the series, but what works as short of just a few minutes doesn't necessarily translate well to a much longer format.

I'm not too hopeful. Not for the cg animation, I'm sure it can look as fluffy and soft in cg as it does in stop motion (though the switch game lowers my expectations a bit). I'm just not hopeful about a western theatrical release outside of southeast asia.
