The last thing I expected to see today was BBC streams Dragon Quest, I guess they either worked out that SAG issue or they had gotten this far before production was shut down. The latter might explain why this isn't on Crunchyroll.

While Ocean are ideal for this show, I am a little disappointed that it is not being recorded in the UK, as you would expect going off of the headline, they dub the games in the UK. Then again it would be hard casting Dai, I don't know of any British actresses who have experience voicing young boys.

In regards to casting, Brian Drummond as Hadlar is perfect. Cole Howard was great as Shinpachi, so he should be fine voicing the rather loud Pop.

edit: Seen some of it, most of the main cast are pretty solid. The issue comes with some of the minor characters and Sabrina Pitre as Dai. Sabrina has that issue you sometimes get with women voicing boys, where the voice she uses is too masculine that Dai ends up sounding like a butch woman than a young boy.

They alreay dubbed 25 episodes in English? That's interesting, here in Latin America Toei partnered with the streaming service Anime Onegai and the Mexican network Canal 7 and they've already released 6 episodes dubbed into Spanish, they are released weekly. They even managed to dub the opening and ending themes into Spanish, that's quite rare these days. The series is also available sub-only in HBO Max in Latin America as well.
However, since the show is near the end of its run I think it would be better if they just dubbed all of the episodes, or at least premiere a new one each work day, if Anime Onegai keeps releasing one episode per week it's going to take 2 years, just for example today Onegai is premiering the Spanish dub for Hitman Reborn and they said they're going to premiere 2 episodes per week.

I hope this means that they worked something out with the union and the rest of Dragon Quest will be dubbed and also added to Crunchyroll. The Adventure of Dai is an amazing show and one of the best Toei anime in recent years. It's too bad it seems like the series hasn't gotten much attention in the US from anime fandom. I think an English dub would help bring more attention to the series. From the clips I've seen the dub sounds pretty high quality and it's great to hear classic Canadian dub VAs like Brian Drummond again and I'm also happy they dubbed the theme songs. Toei is supposed to have some event at NYCC so hopefully there will be news about the Dragon Quest dub there.
