"The lead this time plays drums!?"

I wonder if this means the story is going to center around Mugi's "sister" from the K-On High School spinoff manga, or whether this will be an entirely new cast of girls?

I'm the opposite, I liked the manga much more than the anime. Mostly I didn't like how the anime skipped many jokes from the manga and omitted Mugi's dark side.

I know this will probably never happen, but I would like to see a new K-On anime where Yui and company are in their 20's, and we see them have fun together but also deal with real life problems. They perhaps could be aiming to become professional musicians. And I don't need a super mature story but something along the lines of Sound Euphonium.

That's fair. I just didn't think a lot of jokes worked so well in text format. The vocal deliver was what sold most of them for me. Furthermore, music was a large reason why I liked K-On! and the manga obviously has no music. Its OST just makes me feel good, and the vocal songs are pretty diverse for "anime music" ranging from pure bad ass rock n' roll and emotional stuff like Tenshi ni fureta yo and "U&I". It probably helps that I'm pretty much in love with Aki Toyosaki. I won't deny that lol. The anime had a lot of factors going for it in regards to audio - things impossible for the manga to have. But I don't think the manga was "bad" by any means, like others do...just a bit boring for me.

They could just adapt the manga focusing on Azusa's band, the original four in their university days.

I'm glad to hear there will be more K-On but I doubt we'll get another season from Kyoani as a result. I would love to be proven wrong but they could easily have covered the last part of the Manga at some point between then and now and yet they haven't. Also I've noticed they love to do 2 seasons and a movie (not including recap films). Haruhi has that, K-On has that and I believe some others do as well.

edit: Just thought I should add that I didn't bother doing any research and went by memory on the part about 2 seasons movie so if I'm out to lunch that's why.

Yeah. They should do that next year to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first season.

Good to see K-On! return.
I'm interested if anything more is going to come out of this project.

K-ON! Shuffle

Two forces unite from across the ages. Two titans of the moe canon become as one. Two exemplars of the CGDCT tradition join forces to battle against... ...presumably nothing.

No. Just no.

There is such a thing as going back to the same well too many times. At some point you are just demeaning the memory of the original wonderful thing, and draining the wonderfulness from it by attaching lesser and crappier sequels.

One possible way this might work is if the setting is the same ol' Sakuragaoka High School, with the same ol' teacher/advisor Sawa-chan there, still looking over the Light Music Club, but with a completely new set of students. A couple of panels of Sawa-chan reminiscing about that first bunch of wacky students she had and no more than that.

Even then it'll just be a pale imitation.
