These all sound wonderful. They’re really giving their all to extend the longevity of this installment. I can appreciate that.

The alternate ending portion is intriguing though. Perhaps they’re going to make an ending that is tailored for a possible sequel or expansion? The original ending is great in its own right and very “definitive”. They could easily tell the general public that they’re choosing to extend it on the basis of this “alternate” ending.

I suppose this is the best way to stitch the missing parts of the main story. XV should've been brilliant since it's a game ten years in the making, but in the end...

I hope the next installment won't disappoint. I hope they can recapture the essence of what makes a great FF.

If you play the Ignis DLC, there's a point where you can see an alternate ending; I'm assuming these DLC will either do something similar (first playthrough is canon, second lets you see alternate endings), or that Luna and Noctis' both will just be two parts of the same alternate ending.

That's exactly what they're going for. The three main episodes of this last DLC set will all tie together and lead to an alternate ending where everyone gets their happy ending. It's a result of fans clamoring for a happier ending than the games more bittersweet normal ending and the non-canon Ignis ending.

I’m a little lost. Can you brief me on what occurs during Ignis’ chapter?

spoiler[Ignis' chapter takes place during Chapter 9/10 and follows him as he rushes to save Noctis from the wrath of Leviathan. Along the way he teams up with Ravus Nox Fleuret, Lunafreya's brother and a Niflheim general, since Ravus is trying to get to Lunafreya who is with Noctis. When they find them, Luna is dead and Noctis is unconscious. Ravus blames Noctis for Luna's death and tries to kill him, but is stopped by Ignis. They are then confronted by Ardyn who offers Ignis a chance to betray Noctis and come with him to Niflheim, and sparing Noctis in the process. If Ignis refuses, he puts on the Ring of Lucii and sacrifices his sight to gain its power temporarily. He then fends off Ardyn, saving Noctis' life at the cost of his sight. This leads into the rest of the game.

However, if Ignis chooses to go with Ardyn under the false pretense of betraying Noctis, Ignis gets close to the stolen Crystal and confronts Ardyn. He then puts on the ring, sacrificing his sight to gain its power temporarily. However, before he can defeat Ardyn, the rings power runs out, and in order to keep using it, he must sacrifice more. In a bid to defeat Ardyn and save Noctis from his cursed fate, Ignis sacrifices his life to gain the rings complete power and overwhelms Ardyn who vanishes, defeated temporarily. Noctis arrives before his friend dies and uses his powers in conjunction with the Crystal's light to restore Ignis' lifeforce and sight, deciding to fight destiny and willingly taking the Crystal's light. He returns ten years later to confront a weakened Ardyn one last time and, presumably, defeats him. Somehow, without sacrificing his life, he is able to dispel the Starscourge and return light to the world, and everyone lives happily ever after.]

The alternate ending presented in Episode Ignis' isn't the canon ending, but because it's part of a branching path, I suppose it isn't technically non-canon either. More of a "what-if." These new DLC episodes are apparently going to create a third branch, one more heavily tied to the main story that grants a happy ending rather than the games original bittersweet ending.
