My interest in the latest iteration of the franchise is negligible, I shall admit. Perhaps the greatest asset of GT6 was its unrivalled selection of vehicles—especially those of a historical nature. The new game's array is comparatively minimal and decidedly contemporary. I can only hope that this is another interstitial title, much like the Prologues.

Well, yeah, but way more than half of those cars were ugly standard cars taken from GT4. GT6 (GT Academy? Maybe GT5 had it too?) had some kinda competition or something where a gamer became an actual racing driver and placed well in Le Mans or something like that. Also I think Polyphony is working closely with FIA or something so it does seem that GT as a series is moving away from the car collection career mode. That does sadden me since I always liked the car collecting aspect of GT games, looking through the large collection of cars while soothing elevator music plays in the background.

Do people seriously play Gran Turismo -anything with the race music turned on?

I was in the closed beta and bought the title recently a little after release. I wouldn't be completely swayed away simply because of lack of content. What's presented is of exceptional high-quality, much more so than anything quality that appeared in GT5 and GT6. The cars that are presented in the title leave absolutely nothing to be desired and PD finally got the feel, sound, and experience of each car. The game is Gran Turismo in name but the driving experience is drastically different from GT6.
Plus in all seriousness, how many times did you drive GT6's VW Kubelwagen or the Moon Landing Rover? And out of the 9,999,999 Skylines how many were actually driven?
Another consideration is that PD will most likely provide much more downloadable content in the future than they had with GT6. You could download quite a bit of free items for GT6, and even if there is paid DLC for Sport I would be willing to bet there will be a ton of additions eventually that will be free.
The biggest gripe I'm currently having with it is the much-lauded livery editor is a bit cumbersome to use and functionality for importing user-created stamps and logos is not currently available. Some people have created some seriously crazy designs already though and they've only been using the included shapes and sponsors. Plus, you can share and download liveries and designs which opens up a lot of functionality for the cars included.
A bigger issue to consider also is there is a 300 layer limit on cars, so knowing that people have created these type cars with individual shapes, when they can only use 300 on a car total, is exceptionally impressive.

Those were my favourites! My entire GT6 garage consists of Standard machines, as many of them I recall from my adolescence. It is such a joy to see them deployed with a more modern physics and lighting model. Admittedly, I may be something of an exceptional case here.

Yes? I'd say most people do.
This is a massive oversight on Sony/Polyphony Digital part, since plenty of PS4 games with music rights issues block the music when streaming/recording clips.

It's sacrilege to have the in-game music on. The only music you need is coming from the engine.

I could be wrong but it sounds like it's saying "We are OK with you putting your gameplay videos on sites like YouTube, but we are not OK with you having the in-game music turned on. Thus, either have it turned off or use your own music".

I don't think that's what they're saying.
They're simply giving a sensible warning to streamers/youtubers that if they upload videos using the game's BGM that this might automatically be flagged by Youtube or similar hosting services as videos containing copyrighted material on behalf of whoever owns the rights to them.
The videos getting flagged or taken down will therefore have nothing to do with Sony or Polyphony Digital.

I don't have a PS4 yet so it's moot, but the lack of offline career mode is a deal-breaker for me.
They should really give an offline career mode option for people not interested in participating in FiA-sanctioned online e-sports (the reason Sony's giving as to why you can't play more than arcade mode offline).
As for the music, is it unfashionable to admit that you like to play racing games with the music on, when it's an option? I like the music selection in previous Gran Turismo games and can still appreciate the engine noises with the music on.
