I'm glad they improved the graphics, but what they really needed to do was improve the character models and animation.

I really wish they stayed consistent with the style established in 999. VLR was so hard to play for me due to the huge change in (amongst other things) art-style. And this doesn't seem to be any better.

I like to think they changed the art style because with VLR (and ZTD) being on more graphically powerful systems they wanted to go all in.

Wait, so is this saying the game has improvements that the PC version doesn't? The PC version better get patched then because there's no reason it shouldn't have them.

Same here. I hate to say it about a series that basically crawled its way to the finish line, but this entry in the franchise definitely wore its budget on its sleeve, which is a shame.

I always thought it was because models are cheaper to animate than sprites, and they had less of a budget. (VLR and 999 had the same character designer, so if VLR used sprites the art styles would have been the same. ZTD actually did have a different character designer though.)

I always wondered if the character model changes were partially an attempt to appeal to a wider audience, as ZTD takes up a style similar to Telltale's The Walking Dead which was incredibly popular a few years ago. Iirc that was the first game in the series to be released on steam too, where such designs would be more likely to be popular.

I'm probably in the minority, but I kind of liked the new designs, even if they were inconsistent.

Still, I'm mostly amused by how Eric ended up being the center of the preview image. He's everyone's favorite character and sure to get people hyped! (I know youtube only gives you a few options to choose from and I'm guessing it's because of how well that image shows the shadow changes, but I never expected to see him on a promo... )
