When will publish articles about the Danganronpa and Tales of Zestiria casts that Funimation announced on their blog?

Wait, what? Guts' rape was unnecessary? That was a pivotal point of his development, and the main foundation of his discomfort with human contact. When he had sex with Casca, that was part of what made it so poignant and powerful, that he was finally opening himself up to another person, consensually, in an intimate manner. That they left that out of the 1997 anime is one of it's biggest flaws, I think.

they left that out,and yet, they kept the parts where he doesn't like being touched(even if it's just a pat on the shoulder),which doesn't make sense anymore.
At least I get a good laugh at people crying about how dark this DARK fantasy story is that is clearly not targeted for them,so,keep entertaining me, guys
I'm just sad how you guys missed out the "adult attack" scene since they skipped the Lost Children arc. That was pure gold in how shocking it was...

Thank you for the show! If I may say, I do prefer the format whereby Twitter questions dominate the running time. More variety leads for more surprises, and indeed more laughs.

I would actually take interest in a Fruit Basket remake. It is still the only shoujo anime I have seen, and I remember being disappointed at the time that it was less of a love story than I had been lead to expect. Jacob has said much about the manga's strengths in this area, so a more comprehensive adaptation thereof might make for something compelling—especially if he reviews it!

As for my awkward question about blockbusters occurring in the summer, I honestly did not consider that school holidays had any relevance when I asked it. They are slightly shorter over here, you see. Our billboards are filled with a superabundance of sorry superheroes for several weeks before their target audiences are unchained from their respective schools.

I had wondered why Guts was so averse to people touching him when I watched the 1997 series recently. So mystery solved. On the other hand, I'm fine with it not being included in original series and see why some like it the way it is. I wouldn't have objected if it was in there (moreso than any other rape scene at least) but I'm not dying to see it included either. I do agree that equal opportunity raping does make it more than just cheap shock value. Still shock value but by no means cheap.

On another Berserk note, it seems the criticism of the visuals, well earned as it may be, has veered from it's bad because it's bad CG (agreed) to just it's bad because it's CG. I don't have too much room to talk because I was once deathly allergic to CG, but having people react "Eww yucky" to every CG anime gets tiresome after a while. I think that while CG is not as good as traditionally animated, I think it has come a long way and been around long enough to be respectable. Unfortunately the 2016 Berserk doesn't help that impression to say the least.

On the idol question at the end, while I don't think that idol anime should be required to address the dark side of the industry, I think ones that do should get points for doing so. While both are idol-positive overall, Idolm@ster and Wake Up Girls do address the darker side of the industry to some extent. Personally, I think anime idols and moreso virtual idols, like Miku, are healthier expressions of the desires of idol fans as the needs of real people to form relationships and whatnot are not sacrificed to the fans' desires for purity. With virtual idols and to a lesser extent anime ones, fans can have their fantasies (that's what their desire for purity is all about, something not exclusive to Japanese pop fans) and those voicing them don't have to be married to their fans, though moreso for virtual ones than anime ones, as those desires are to some degree extended from the character to the voice actor, though they may not be contractually obligated to indulge that though. I get that people can be put off from idol anime due to the real industry, as that was the main reason I avoided idol anime before I got into the genre. And that hasn't changed my opinion of the industry, but rather made me think that real people need to be distanced from the position of idol.

Fun podcast episode.

I am a big fan of the Trigun anime series but never read any of the manga. If the Maximum manga is as good or better than the first manga, I will also be all over an anime adaptation of Trigun Maximum handled by Rie Matsumoto and Bones.

I have a couple of dream anime series remakes in the Rose of Versailles and Harlock, and, like the remake dreams of the panelists and everyone out there, if those remakes happen I hope they are handled by good, competent anime studios and people.

Finally, I like dark stuff from Gen Urobuchi, and I wish he made a sequel to Madoka Magica Rebellion and another season of Psycho-Pass.

I'll be quietly waiting for a video of Zac eating a hat, because everyone knows Natsuki Takaya hated the Furuba anime and she seems hellbent on never allowing any of her works to be adapted again. I'm surprised no one brought that up

I too find it strange to imagine that someone might be averse to human contact for reasons other than brutal rape. I mean it could have been reasonably explained by a violent upbringing full of betrayal & abandonment that made Guts the way he was & his relationship with Casca was one based on initial hostility that grew into mutual respect & understanding. But no, rape makes much more sense & on that note I'm glad we get to see Casca get tentacle raped every week in this seasons OP to remind me of an important part of her character development: two years worth of Griffiths semen.

Great comment. Your last sentence really says it all for me. I am a fan of anime idol series, and the concept of fictional idols, in general, but the real-life idol industry is pretty horrifying. I don't think there is a place for that in the real world.

Hentai Manga address the violence and exploitation in the idol industry, A LOT.

In fact, if idol is one of the tags it almost guarantees it will be a dark chapter devoid of any vanilla.

As far as some sort of social responsibility in Idol anime and the actual Idol industry admittedly the actual industry can sometimes bean horrible place but sometimes the worst aspect of it can be the fans themselves. Ironically Love Live School Idol Project can be an example of this toxic over-entitled fan mentality

When it comes to the Seiyuu who voiced the girls in µ's. I mean I'm specifically part of a group on Twitter that exists in part to defend Emi Nitta from online trolls and support her after the blowback from the scandal that “fans” and a tabloid manufactured.

As far as Berserk yes it's bloody and gory that's always been Berserk I have no problem with it. It's the unremitting bleakness that gets some. For me it's problems are that Guts is written almost like a self-insert Power Fantasy character I remember the original Anime at least giving him some nuance. Along with the overuse of Exposition to build character backstory. I would rather see than hear about Guts's emotional turmoil or inner life than have it explained to me.

Along with pretty much all that has happened to Casca and wasted opportunities at thematic exploration and the disorienting Camera work I'll keep watching it but it's really not that good.

The original source material shows all of that, but they cut all of that out in this adaptation to better contain it into 12 episodes (and to be fair, to cut down on the workload as well, it'd have been a nightmare for them, plus gruesome content, even by Berserk's standards). Then they rearranged and created new scenes for 1 episode that tries to make up for volumes worth of information and development in 20+ mins. The reflection that Guts has over his life and leaving Casca is a massive turning point, but the material they cut out is what gives the whole thing a lot of its weight. As a result, his character is really flat and a number of themes in general are lost.

....Though if you find Berserk too bleak now, then you probably wouldn't like what they cut out anyway lol. To be honest, I don't think Berserk's that bleak, there's always a degree of hope. Plus Puck and Isidro balance things out.

Clicked play because it said One Piece. I guess your mission was accomplished. Real pumped I got to hear that guy mention One Piece in a list of shows he's watching and nothing is said about it further.

I guess its good to know that I might have at least ten years to catch up on one piece, though reading it over watching it might be better/easier. Ditto Berserk, particularly if this adaptation is the new normal. I didn't thinik the movies were that bad but this CG is something else. Was an OVA series out of the question? feature length eps and maybe a mini arc at a time would have been cool but now....at least theres a musuo game coming out. hopefully it doesn't suck.

Summer lows being tempered with Thunderbolt Fantasy (though the crazy cuts take some getting used to, more than watching puppets that is). 91 days seems to be channelling/reminding me of a different gangster film each week, not a bad thing lol

New Trigun would be cool. Im not familiar with maximum but blood blockade was pretty good plus knives needs to die
